My Monday morning is usually spent talking to people about their weekend trips. Today was not an exception as you can see from the following GTalk conversation I had with Colin. Needless to say when you put two gear whores together the conversation often fall into talking about outdoor gear… (this seems to be quite common for us outdoor folks).
me: How was Rainbow Lake?
Colin: Good! Cold, but nice powder!
me: Did it snow on you guys?
Colin: Yah, on saturday. What did you do?
me: Screwed around in the city. Still didn’t get a backpack
Your Atmos [backpack] must be the long version right?
Colin: Medium
me: oh really? that didn’t fit me at all
Colin: hmm maybe they changed the design
me: the back support thing makes it seemed so much smaller inside
Colin: yeah, but it is nice. Don’t sweat
me: Valhalla Pure doesn’t carry that many Osprey packs. Going to go back to White Rock one of these days and go to the gear shop there…
Colin: What is that shop?
me: Mountain Magic. Went there about 4 or 5 weeks ago, they had bunch Osprey bags
me: this one seems similar to yours

Colin: looks sweet!! I want one in 60l
me: Too bad the biggest is 52L. Well 55 if you get the large version
Colin: I want the variant for winter stuff. The Atmos is awesome for summer and skiing. And is lighter
me: yeah atmos is pretty sweet but it doesn’t fit me
At least the 50L medium one doesn’t. Hopefully the shop in WR has variant. That one looks interesting
*I sent an email about couple sweet sleeping bags from Montbell

Colin: I want that -18 bag!!! And the -29!! Stretchy inside sounds like a good idea
you are gear whoring, my friend!
me: I saw it on the magazine yesterday

read the 3rd review. Sounds pretty neat and these bags are light!!!
Colin: almost as light as my -3 bag
me: I know…but probably way more expensive…
Colin: yup but exclusive
me: putting the Western Mountaineering bag to shame
Like this one
Colin: schweet
me: and waaay cheaper…
Colin: i want. Next season ba-by.
me: Wow that -29 bag is only 1.4kg. And the -18 is only 1.1 kg
damn!
Colin: yeah!!!!!!! Lighter than my -12 and waaay cheaper than WM
me: might be in US $$ though… but still
Colin: yup
me: : drool :
Colin: indeed. That would have been nice this weekend
me: haha how cold was it?
Colin: -18
me: was it windy too?
Colin: yeah. On and off
me: when I went up there in Dec it was like -25 plus windchill. We didn’t camp though but sitting by the lake & eating frozen beagles wasn’t all that fun
Colin: frozen beagles??? Hahaahaha you are more chinese by the day
me: well everything froze
Colin: including the dogs?
beagle= a kind of dog
bagel = bread thing wiht a hole
me: I know
I hit enter before I sent it.

Hahahaha oh man. I am DEFINITELY a gear whore.
You should hear us talk about snowboards, snowboard clothes, tent, sleeping bags, surfboards, wetsuits… and don’t even get me started about photography!
Well, and golf for that matter. Golf is particularly bad for that
What is it about outdoorsy/sporty people that make us soooo bad for this?
I guess it’s like being a fashionista with a shoe fetish…
